Baslow Edge Mark Preston was born and lives in Derbyshire and has successfully exhibited in the area, and further afield, since the late 1990's. His connection with the Peak District was formed from an early age walking and sketching with his father, Rex and fellow artist Wilfred Ball. Their enthusiasm rubbed off on him and this early introduction to the Dark Peak made a lasting impression. Mark paints in acrylics and loves to build up thick impasto texture, working mainly in situ with relatively little time spent in the studio. He is in his element when working on location, observing first-hand the varying conditions and effects on the landscape with great enthusiasm. "For me, it's the being there, working in the open air and experiencing the weather, light and colour specific to the different seasons that fascinates me." Sunlit Heather |
