Roaches Curbar Edge Katherine Rhodes is a printmaker and painter living in Sheffield. She exhibits her artwork throughout the UK and has received awards for her printmaking. Her work is inspired by landscape and adventures that connect us with wild and rugged places. Much of this inspiration comes from walking and regular visits to the Peak District, often in the company of climbers and other lovers of the outdoors. The linocut prints are handmade original prints. Katherine cuts the linoleum printing plate to create the lines, textural marks, and block shapes to show the rocks and rugged shapes in the landscape. Ink is rolled onto the lino plate and is printed from this by hand onto cotton rag paper. The many colours are built up in layers using a reduction process, cutting away from the same plate and then printing the next colour layer on top, repeating until many layers of colour have been built up. The reduction process gradually cuts away reducing the printing plate and destroying it as the prints are created, thereby ensuring the uniqueness of the print edition and originality of the artwork.
