Stanage Artist Julie H Winter invites you to walk in her footsteps as she ambles through the lush landscape of the Peak District Her journey in oil paint aims to capture the luminosity of the sky, the texture of the landscape, surface qualities and the drama of the ever changing weather conditions. This experienced artist studied art in Sheffield, her hometown. Her art career, however, started in earnest in 2008 after moving to Ayrshire Scotland where she worked alongside other contemporary artists such as Julie Smith and Bridget Hunter. Often painting en-plein air, Julie captured the dramatic rugged west coast. Now she returns and is excited to bring her love of the landscape and enthusiasm to paintings of the Yorkshire coast and our beautiful Derbyshire. Her process is to work in layers creating an underpainting to establish brights, lights and darks in gesso. Applying a translucent layer of fine oil, she then adds scumbled opaques for drama and finishes off caressing the canvas with her trusty palette knife to loosely represent the textures of the landscape. |
