Kristan Baggaley
limited edition prints from watercolours

Kristan Baggaley regularly visits the Peak District from Sheffield for walks and inspiration and has an intimate knowledge of the edges and moorlands throughout the changing seasonsInfluenced by Turner and Girtin, his paintings reveal the atmosphere and space of the landscape in it's various moods. The paintings reflect an autumn theme of the earth yielding its colours of bracken and heathers to warm sunlight in windswept Peak District valley and moorland views.  Kristan uses textured layers of paint mixed with sand and gritstone to create sculptured canvases that emit a light and shadow of their own to portray the subtly changing colour and mood of the landscape in different light.

Born in Sheffield, Kristan has been a constant visitor to the Peak District and has an intimate knowledge of the edges and moorlands around the Derwent Valley. Influenced by Turner and Girtin, his work reveals the atmosphere and space of the landscape in it's various moods.

By using colour boldly his painting exposes the stark contrasts between earth and sky making the weather become an integral part of the composition.  Showers and storm clouds for example, hang in the middle distance rather than forming a backcloth.
